Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have a bow or arrows. Do I need my own equipment?

image5

Nope. We gotcha covered. We have a selection of bows and arrows suited to fit most age groups.

Will I be required to travel?

image6

No. While we encourage you to come along with us, it is not required. USA Archery has a series of quarterly virtual tournaments that we will participate in at our range. Virtual tournaments are a great way for JOAD clubs from all over to virtually compete during a set time period.

Are there any other memberships required to join?

image7

No, but it is encouraged. Some tournaments may be hosted by other organizations and may require you to be a member, or offer temporary memberships, in order to participate. NFAA and ASA are two other organizations that are very active in this area.

What are the pins and lanyards for?

image8

USA Archery uses a pin progression approach to encourage practice and participation. On the last class of every month we will "shoot for pins." Depending on your bow class you will have to shoot a certain score in order to obatin a pin. These pins are collected on a lanyard to help you identify where you are at in your development. (ie. much like the martial arts belt color system.) See images in gallery for examples.

Is there a dress code?

image9

We do ask that you dress appropriately. Jeans are permitted, but khaki pants/shorts are recommended for tournaments and when we shoot for pins. Please wear closed toe shoes. In the winter, try to avoid wearing jackets that have zippers that protrude out around the neck  to avoid contact with the bow string. Camo clothing is prohibited during tournaments. Camo trim is acceptable. See USA Archery's dress code for more details.

Can my child participate if they are younger than 8?

image10

Since every child is different, it is up to the coach's discretion to allow membership to anyone younger than 8 years of age. This is typically around the time when children are more receptive to class instruction and are mature enough to understand and obey the range rules. We will offer an Explore Archery program in the spring that will be geared toward the 7-12 year olds. This program is great for preparing youth for a JOAD club.
